Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a self defence system and competition sport. Similar to Japanese jujitsu. Training is performed in the traditional uniform called the Gi which incorporates a jacket, pants and belt.
Brazilian jiu-jitsu mainly focuses on grappling on the ground with no striking and incorporates throws as well as joint locks and chokes. Classes are structured as follows, a short warm-up routine, teaching of submission techniques (moves) and live competitive sparring, known as rolling.
